Ricardo Baeza-Yates holds dual citizenship and positions in Santiago, Chile and Barcelona, Spain. Most recently, he was CTO of NTENT, a search technology company. Before, he was Chief Scientist and VP of Research at Yahoo Labs. He managed Yahoo Labs Haifa (2008 – 2012) and Yahoo Labs London (2012 – 2014). As Professor, he founded and directed the Center for Web Research in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chile. He is also ICREA Professor and founder of the Web Research Group at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.

He continues with both universities as a part-time professor. His research interests include algorithms and data structures, information retrieval, web search and data mining, and data science and visualization. He has done seminal research on fake news and bias on the web, as described in his recent Vienna Gödel Lecture. He has co-authored several books, including Modern Information Retrieval (Addison Wesley, 2011), which won ASIS&T’s 2012 Best Information Science Book Award and is the most widely used textbook on search. He is ACM Fellow and IEEE Fellow with over 500 publications, tens of thousands of citations, multiple awards and several patents.
